European Initiative for Energy Security
Europe’s energy security, industrial competitiveness, and prosperity are at risk. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and weaponisation of energy, coupled with China's increasing dominance of raw material supply chains and global manufacturing, have highlighted the risks of depending on autocrats and adversaries for critical resources. Higher energy costs are hitting industries and citizens alike, driving inflation and political fragmentation, and undermining European strategic autonomy.
Europe must embrace a new energy realism to address critical economic and security challenges.
Policymakers and industry leaders across Europe must promote solutions to improve energy security, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.
Mission
The European Initiative for Energy Security (EIES) was launched in the wake of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine to advance policies that support diverse supply chains, resilient energy systems, and a strong European industrial base. EIES convenes policymakers, business and military leaders to promote collaboration across silos and between like-minded countries in the face of global challenges.
It works with the Energy Security Leadership Council-Europe (ESLC-Europe) to achieve these goals.
With a growing presence across key European capitals in Brussels, Berlin and London, EIES conducts in-depth research and high-impact campaigns to inform decisionmakers and the public.
About
EIES was launched with the support of SAFE, an action-oriented, nonpartisan organisation committed to energy, transport and supply chain policies that advance the economic and national security of the United States, and its allies and partners. SAFE works with its Energy Security Leadership Council—a coalition of current and former Fortune 500 CEOs and retired 4-star admirals and generals—to support secure and responsible energy policies. EIES maintains independence from SAFE in its research and policy positions.
SAFE is supported by major public charities, private individuals, and industry.
